Can i express my milk and feed my baby?

For how long is it safe to give expressed breast milk? and so on….

These are the frequently asked questions by new working moms in my clinical practice,so decided to resolve the queries in a simple way.

Few points to remember:

• Preferably pump once before leaving for work
• can pump once at office in 8-9hr shift and keep in office refrigerator.
• Best to use steel or glass bottles for milk storage
• Always label bottles in terms of date and time of expression so that oldest milk is used first !
• Never heat milk directly …best to keep bottle in a bowl of hot water and test temperature on back of your hand before feeding your baby.
• Do not refreeze milk once thawed and use it within 24 hrs .
