Diarrhoeal disease is a major health problem in India. It is the third most common cause of death in under 5 children, responsible for 13% deaths.
Diarrhoea  vaccination along with other govt programmes has resulted in reduction of diarrhoea related deaths.

About Rotavirus

Rotavirus is the leading cause of severe dehydrating diarrhoea in children under 5 yrs globally.
In developing countries like India, 3/4 of children acquire their first episode of rotavirus diarrhoea before the age of 12 months.
Rotavirus vaccine can prevent rotavirus disease. CDC recommends that infants get rotavirus vaccine to protect against rotavirus disease.

Important Information About Rotavirus Vaccination    

  • Rotavirus vaccine is administered by putting drops in the child’s mouth.
  • Babies should get 2 or 3 doses of rotavirus vaccine, depending on the brand of vaccine used.
  • The first dose must be administered before 15 weeks of age.
  • The last dose must be administered by 8 months of age.
  • Almost all babies who get rotavirus vaccine will be protected from severe rotavirus diarrhoea.
  • Rotavirus vaccine may safely be given at the same time as other vaccines.
