Do’s and Don’ts on Fever Management in Children
Do’s:
1. Stay Hydrated: Ensure your child drinks plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.
2. Appropriate Medication: Use age-appropriate medications like acetaminophen or ibuprofen for reducing fever, following the dosage instructions.
3. Tepid water sponging ..with temperature of water around 28-30*C
Seek Medical Advice: Consult a healthcare professional if the fever persists for more than 48 hours or if the child exhibits severe symptoms like difficulty breathing, persistent vomiting, or rash.
Don’ts:
1. Avoid Antibiotics….Do not give antibiotics to treat fever on your own
2. No Overbundling: Avoid overbundling your child in heavy blankets or clothing, as it can increase their body temperature.
3. Avoid Cold Baths: Do not use cold baths or ice packs to bring down a fever, as they can cause shivering and raise the body temperature.
4. Avoid switching OFF fans and AC : as it increases trapping of heat.
Do not ignore signs of severe illness, such as difficulty waking up, a stiff neck, or a seizure.
