How to make Bedtime easier for kids?
- Go to bed at same time…this helps them physically and mentally to get into a sleep routine.
- Turn off screens at least an hour before bedtime…as it make it hard to calm down enough to sleep.Off screen activities like reading and listening to quiet music are better.
- Get into a routine…to get the child ready to sleep….like taking bath or sponge,changing to nightwear, brushing teeth and reading a book.Can also use this time to chat about the day for teens.
- Set an early Bedtime…results in easier bedtime as very tired kid might have a hard time settling down to sleep.
- Make a bedtime chart for preschoolers and ensure that all activities move towards their bedroom.
- Create a Sleep Haven…a comfortable place with right temperature,light and furnishings.
- Cut the caffeine…be mindful of other sources of caffeine also like chocolate etc.
- Get moving during the day..helps them sleep better.
- Watch the Napping… avoid late afternoon naps and no longer needed after 5yrs of age.
- Don’t feel Guilty….Kids will always ask for that one last thing — hugs, a drink of water, a trip to the bathroom, just one more book. Do your best to head off these requests by making them part of the bedtime routine.
