Aspiration in children
Toilet training tips
Very important to start toilet training at right age which can vary a bit from child to child.Starting it early can make the child restless and can lead on to holding of stool and constipation.
Few tips to follow for successful toilet training are as follows:
1.Assess the readiness of the child
That is when your child has dry nappies for upto 2hrs and is able to tell you that he/she is going to pass or has already passed stool or urine.
2.Get right equipment(proper size potty seat) and dress your child in clothes that are easy to take off.
3..Create a routine
Encourage the child to sit on the toilet for a short time (5-10mts) about 30mts after a meal at least twice a day.
4.Demonstrate the posture
Sit on floor/toilet seat with legs apart, leaning forward and a straight back.Best is to use a indian style toilet or a stool to support feet in western style seat to ensure a proper angle to relax pelvic muscles.
5.Do not scold/comment the child in case of soiling of nappy or floor .Just clean it up.Be patient and supportive.
6.Encourage the habit
Help your child wash hands ,praise and reward when they make an effort to use toilet.
Stay safe happy and healthy!
